What is love? For some, love makes life a meaningful and purposeful journey, whilst for others, love is nothing more than a consequence of chemical reactions, and neurotransmitters like dopamine. In this age of instant gratification, it seems as though love is threatened by algorithms, where coding can bring individuals together rather than a chance encounter.
There are, of course, other questions that arise when we muse over love. For instance, how do we find love, and what do we need do to gain love? The great Persian philosopher, Sufi Rumi, provides an answer to these questions. Rumi says:
‘You task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.’
Removing the blocks and barriers in one’s life is a big part of counselling. Perhaps you are feeling stuck in your life, not knowing where to go. Who do you connect with? How do you embrace another person in your life? How does a relationship grow? How do you accept love? How do you give love? How do you practise self-love?
How do you free yourself from debilitating negative thoughts, which result in self-sabotage? These are all questions that can be explored in depth through therapy. Therapy will help you develop self-awareness, with the aim of demolishing all the barriers and blocks in your life, so that you are free and open to love.
